El Hierro is an enigmatic island. Its rugged coastline lies hidden under warm crystal waters with an ocean floor of such fantastic formations as those found on land.
The island's steep slopes reach depths of hundreds of metres close to shore with flora and fauna rich in tropical species: blow fish, lobster, black coral, grouper and pollack, trumpet fish, sargo, barracuda, etc.
During the summer months, these great depths are host to groups
of large mantas, hammerhead sharks, tuna and grey trigger
fish.
Diving in the warm waters of Mar de Las Calmas has piqued
a great interest among scuba divers. |
