VILLAGES OF EL HIERRO

Valverde El Monacal Guarazoca San Andrés
Isora El Tamaduste Tiñor Echedo
El Pinar La Caleta Timijiraque El Golfo
Sabinosa La Restinga
VALVERDE

This is the capital of the island. It should be noted that Valverde sits at an altitude of 600 metres and of all the Canary capitals it's the only one away from the coast. Among its charms are the style of its houses and its lack of traffic lights.

EL MONACAL

EL MOCANAL:

Found in the north of the island, surrounded by pastures and farms; on the coastal side, two natural swimming pools (Pozo de las Calcosas) with an indigenous village nearby.

GUARAZOCA

Located in the north, 2km from El Mocanal, it owes its name to an ancient Bimbache princess who betrayed her village for the love of a Spanish soldier. Of interest are the old wine presses and the typical cube shaped houses as well as the famous Mirador de La Peña.

SAN ANDRÉS

Located some 10km from Valverde on a plateau that enjoys a continental climate. Since the inhabitants mainly raise livestock, it's no surprise to see goats, sheep and cows calmly grazing.

ISORA

A small village situated in the northeast, dotted with pretty whitewashed houses, gardens and grapevines. Just at the end of the village, the Mirador de Isora overlooks Las Playas, the Roque de Bonanza and the Parador Nacional.

EL TAMADUSTE

Found close to the airport, this typical fishing village is in reality a summer spot for many islanders. As well, it's an ideal place to bathe given its small natural port that's like a big swimming pool with clear smooth water open to the sea.

TIÑOR

Seated on the hillside close to Valverde, this is the smallest village on the island where people work in farming and livestock. It maintains the traditional Herreño style houses (stone walls and tiled roofs) and is a perfect place to just lose yourself.

ECHEDO

Also close to Valverde, this little village offers a beautiful landscape of grapevines since it lies in the island's most important wine growing district. Located nearby is the Charco Manso, a fantastic bathing place with arches of lava and several water spouts.

EL PINAR

On the eastern side of the island, made up of the villages of Taibique and Las Casas. You can find basket and cloth weavers and several woodworking shops. You can also enjoy a great view of the village from the Mirador de Tanajara.

LA CALETA

A pretty coastal village close to Los Cangrejos airport. Inviting pools dot its jagged coastline and prove irresistible for a refreshing dip.

TIMIJIRAQUE

Close to Puerto de La Estaca (Estaca Port), it has one of the few sandy beaches on the island. Lots of surfers have discovered its joys.

EL GOLFO

Among the locals, El Golfo is also known as Frontera. This picturesque valley is located on the north of the island; its beautiful mountains and lovely swimming spots such as La Maceta, El Charco, Los Sargos, El Charco Azul, El Verodal beach, make it the  ideal area for trekking, diving, paragliding etc.. In the Gulf valley are nestled the villages of Tigaday, Sabinosa, Las Puntas, Los Mocanes, Guinea y Los Llanillos.

SABINOSA

The western most spot of the island, located in the Gulf valley. This picturesque village is situated at the foot of the cliff and is surrounded by gullies. From Sabinosa visitors can head off to Los Reyes hermitage.

LA RESTINGA

This small southern fishing village has a sandy beach and lots of restaurants to sample the fresh catch of the day. Whatever is being hauled from the sea can as well be purchased fresh at the fishing wharf. The Reserva Marina de Las Calmas is also located here.
