Gran Canaria can also claim its rightful
place in the world of art. The expression of excellence in art and

An important factor that contributed to this development was when the
Canary Islands (to which Gran Canaria
belongs) was colonized by Spain and added to the Castilian
Crown in the 15th century.
The island became a

There is the Museo de la Ciencia y la Tecnologia (Science and
Technology Museum) and the Casa de Colón
(Christopher Columbus House) as well as the Centro Atlântico
de Arte Moderno (Atlantic Centre of Modern Art)
– all of them located in Las Palmas. Perhaps even your
hotel might have an interesting
history or works of art that add to its cultural and artistic value.
Examples of the island’s sculptures can be found
in many churches like the Church of San Juan in Telde. The
buildings, churches and even residences in the island reflect
the influence of architecture brought in by the West.
