Some "Need to Know" Information

Currency: Euro, as in all other European countries.

Languages spoken: Spanish and English (for tourist related workers). Menus at restaurants are in Spanish, English and German.

Transport: Bus and Taxi. Car hire is relatively cheap, very convenient and is therefore highly recommended. It takes only 40 minutes to cross the island from north to south and about 25 minutes across.

Water: The local water is potable but it is always best to drink bottled water instead.

Alcohol: Alcohol is very cheap in supermarkets. A 1L bottle of San Miguel (Spanish Beer) is around 1€, and a can of beer as little as €0.50. However, in bars and clubs, the same beer would cost around €2.50. There is no duty on alcohol purchased in Lanzarote (other than VAT at 5%), so restaurants tend make a lot of their money on markups on alcohol. If a package exists which is all-inclusive, it might be a good idea to pay the little bit extra for that.
