To the east of Roja Mountain, declared a Special Nature Reserve for its geological, botanical and ornithological importance, is the Médano coast with several golden sandy beaches that offer good conditions for windsurfing and nude bathing.
Among these beaches are several smaller ones such as El Cabezo, La Jaquita, La Pelada, Balos, Montaña Roja, and two larger ones: La Tejita and El Médano.
At more than a kilometre (1.150m) long by 40m wide, this fine golden sand beach is windy with moderate waves and good for bathing, especially between September and October when the trade winds are calm and the water is more tranquil.
