To the far north of the Martiánez pools, known as Lake Martiánez (a Cesar Manrique creation) is the beach; medium grain black sand with gravel and pebbles; 330m long by 25m wide.
While waves are generally moderate, at certain times of the year swimming is not permitted.
It's a favourite spot for surfers.

This man-made beach, designed in 1993 by Cesar Manrique, who died before its completion, can be found on the east coast of Puerto de la Cruz.
Measuring 700m long by 50m wide, it is divided by rocky outcroppings into three separate stretches named El Castillo, El Charcón and the third, Punta Brava. The waters are calm and safe for swimming.
