This is one of the three boroughs, together with Tegueste and Vilaflor, that is not on the sea.
Its slope is extreme and recent eruptions, including the historical one in 1706, have reduced the possibilities for cultivation.
The borough has preserved its rural flavour with outstanding examples of traditional architecture such as the Alhóndiga, the Guzmanes mansion or the Martelos house.
Its rich landscape can be appreciated from the La Atalaya Lookout.
The San Antonio de Padua Church was erected in 1728 by the parish on the site of the old hermitage which was destroyed by lava from the Trevejo.
Notable for its interior coffered ceiling of Mudejar (Islamic) influence.
