The borough of La Orotava is the largest on the island.
From the coast, its territory rises through an immense valley to the Teide National Park and can be admired from the Humboldt Lookout.
The La Hijosa Botanical Garden and the hills of pine and firetree-heath forest (monteverde) are also part of the borough's attractions.
Within the rural heartland, which includes places like La Florida, Benijos and La Perdomo, measures to conserve popular ancestral traditions include different proposals such as a handicrafts exhibit in Pinolere.
El Rincon to the east of Puerto de la Cruz, among the large number of banana plantations, offers magnificent black sand beaches including El Bollullo, Los Patos and El Halcón, which open to the Atlantic.
