Tacoronte is a land of excellent wines and other agricultural produce.
Its name, according to some historians, originates from the aboriginal word 'tagoro' or meeting place or council. |

There are many outstanding historical buildings here: the Augustan convent which today is the Casa de la Cultura (Cultural Centre) and the 17th Century church.
Among the traditional Canary houses sits Santa Catalina Church, an authentic museum for its artistic richness as seen in the baroque altarpiece in the main chapel and in the images of the Virgin of Carmen by Luján Pérez.
Also of interest are the hermitages of La Caridad (18th Century) and San Juan (17th C), the latter beside the market where district farmers sell their produce every weekend.
The Madre del Agua forest is of incalculable ecological value as an original reserve for laurel trees as well as other endemic flora and fauna.
Other places of interest are: Cristo de los Dolores Sanctuary, Santa Catalina Mártir Church, La Alhóndiga, the hermitages of La Caridad, San Juan and San Jerónimo, El Calvario, Augustinian Convent (17th C), Agua García Forest (laurel reserve) and the Minsk Theatre. |
