Nestled in the Tegueste valley, this borough is without sea access.
The San Marcos Plaza with its church dating from 1530 sits in the centre of town while El Socorro district is home to a beautiful 16th Century hermitage.
Other districts have preserved their traditional architecture as well: La Padilla, San Luis or Pedro Álvarez and El Palomar.
Rising above the latter two is a firetree-heath forest belonging to the Anaga Natural Park and of great importance for its plant and animal life.
Also of interest is the Historic Artistic Group of Tegueste (conjunto Histórico-Artístico).
The Tegueste pilgrimage is one of the oldest and most outstanding on the island.
Woodworking continues to survive as seen in the manufacture of small guitars (timples) and other musical instruments.
