Boroughs of Tenerife: VILAFLOR

The capital of Vilaflor perches at 1,400 metres in the highest borough in all of Spain, and is one of only three on Tenerife that has no access to the sea.
For centuries visitors have come to the dry climate of Vilaflor for health reasons and its excellent spring water has given rise to a mineral water bottling industry.

Canary pine trees, (whose most famous specimen, 'Pino Gordo' (Fat Pine) with an 11 metre base circumference), can be found in the capital but grow primarily around the La Vica Mountain. However, in Teide National Park only a half-kilometre from Vilaflor the pine gives way to broom trees and "codeso" shrubs (Adenocarpus Viscosus).

The traditional crafts include macramé and rosettes as well as pastry and wine making.

Visits to the Convent of the Order of Little Bethlehem, San Pedro Church, Soler House and the San Roque Hermitage are a must.
