Tenerife is located between the 28th and 29th parallel north and between 16º and 17º west, has a surface area of 2,034 km2 and, like the rest of the Islands, it is of volcanic origin.
Tenerife shares with the rest of the Canary Archipelago one of the most pleasant and mildest climates in the world and is the holiday destination for several millions visitors a year.
Its outstanding beauty attracts holidaymakers in search of the sea and the sunshine as well as more independent travellers who prefer to explore Tenerife stunning and extremely diverse range of spectacular natural landscapes: the island in fact is clearly divided in a very dry southern part filled with breathtaking lunar sceneries and world-class beaches, whilst the very humid north offers verdant, subtropical vegetation with a rugged and dramatic coastline.
In central Tenerife, the island boasts the majestic Mount Teide (or Pico del Teide) volcano; situated at 3717 m above sea level, it is the highest mountain in Spain, the highest mountain in any Atlantic island, and the third largest volcano on Earth.
